Adler Endowment Fund Status

By Dr. David Hackleman (OR 1969; Staph 1977, 1978, 1990)

The Adler Endowment Fund has now reached $320,000. This fund is an acknowledgement of the fact that we as alumni of the program do indeed believe in the National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) and the opportunity it offers. A few people have committed to a $1,000 donation for each of the next ten years! Can you be the next? If we had a total of 300 alumni that each made this commitment for the future, we would achieve the goal of being able to totally fund the NYSC just from the interest of the Adler Endowment Fund alone.

We have over 4,500 alumni, yet many have not donated. Most folks have many organizations asking for their financial support, and all of us feel some kinship to our colleges, local communities, and many other groups. Clearly, some alumni have greater financial income. For those of you who are in a position where your income just is not at a level where you can afford to donate to the fund — clearly it is understandable. When one is living as a student, scientist or teacher, often the currency income is not as great as in some other fields.

All donations are tax deductible as the IRS codes stipulates as the National Youth Science Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization. Since it takes about $300,000 to run the camp each year, the fund needs to grow to about $5,000,000 to run the camp in perpetuity. Let the Foundation spend more time on program improvements and less time seeking funds. Together, we can make a significant difference in the world in this one way. We can state that we believe in NYSC and its unique educational experience. It dramatically affected my opportunities, and I suspect if you are reading this note, it certainly affected you, too! Donate to the Adler Endowment Fund today!
