Candidate for President-Elect

  • Molly Freeman (ND 1994; Staph 1999)

Camp has always been very special to me, like nearly everyone else who participated in NYSC, as a camper, staph and/or presenter, over the last 50 years. It's important to me to stay in contact with camp friends, make new ones, and see the legacy of NYSC continued. I can sit back and hope that happens - or I can be involved. I'd like to give back by serving as the President-Elect for the alumni association.

Candidate for Secretary

  • Alex McPherson (WV 2007; Staph 2010)

As a delegate in 2007 my eyes were opened to the wonders and life-changing experiences the NYSC offered. As a staph member in 2010 I always worked to bring those experiences to life for others as my family had before me. On the BOA from 2008-2010 I lent my knowledge as a recent delegate/stapher and as Secretary in 2011 I worked to enhance and streamline our social media presence. As Secretary I feel I'd gain another opportunity to better the connections alumni are able to make and strengthen our network as more than interrelated strangers - but a family.

Candidate for Treasurer

  • Diane Saunders (NC 2007)

I am very interested in connecting the younger generation of NYSC alumni to alumni who are more established in various scientific professions. Given the diverse career paths of former delegates and staph members, I think there is a great opportunity to create a network of information for internships, graduate programs, and career investigation. I also feel it is important to engage alumni from the beginning, so as to cultivate and sustain a strong sense of community. I would be honored to serve as a spokesperson and coordinator for more recent alumni of NYSC.

Candidates for Board of Advisors (BOA)

  • Jeff Green (PA 1972)

I am passionate about encouraging young people to get excited about science and to enter a scientific career. To this end, I have hosted many summer interns and students at my lab at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. This is a critical time for science in the US given the extreme stresses on research budgets in the US that are discouraging some of the best and the brightest from pursuing careers in science. The NYSC provides a wonderful opportunity to given talented young students the chance to explore many aspects of science with provocative speakers and network with future leaders in science and technology. I would enthusiastically work to continue the outstanding opportunities that the NYSC offers, to find ways to improve its mission and to encourage these future leaders to pursue a career in science and technology.

  • David Hardin (KY 1978)

Serving on the Board of Advisors would be a great opportunity to give something back to NYSC, and to stand up for Science generally. Having attended the 50th anniversary reunion, I was amazed at the commonality of wonderful experiences that campers and staph from all years share. Any organization that can maintain its mission, culture, and positive influence on peoples' lives for 50 years is certainly worthy of support. Besides, I owe (blame ;-) my career in computing research to that first encounter with computers at NYSC back in 1978.
